The family in English is one of the first topics we start with when learning a new language.
The reason is simple – these are words we use all the time in real life.

👉 Important:
In English family is used as a whole, not as a collection of people.
Example:
My family is very important to me. ✅
(no are, a is)
Vocabulary expansion
When we talk more specifically, we use:
grandmother / grandmother – grandmother / grandfather
aunt / uncle – aunt / uncle, uncle
cousin – cousin
👉 Note:
In English cousin there is no gender – the word is the same.
Family by marriage
This is where confusion often occurs:
husband – husband
wife – wife
son-in-law – son-in-law
daughter-in-law – daughter-in-law
brother-in-law / sister-in-law – brother-in-law, shurey, zalva (everything is in-law)
👉 English does not make as many differences as Bulgarian –
